Alien 3 (1992)

The story of the comics adaptation exactly followed the plot of the film Alien 3, scripted by David Giler, Walter Hill and Larry Ferguson. In it, Ellen Ripley crash lands on the prison planet of Fiorina 161 and must face an alien with the few remaining inmates on the planet. The series was written by Steven Grant, drawn by Christopher Taylor, inked by Rick Magyar, colored by Matt Webb, and lettered by Jim Massara, with cover art by painter Arthur Suydam.

Lady Rawhide (1995)

Lady Rawhide is a scantily clad masked vigilante who defends the people from their oppression against tyrannical officials and other villains. She first appeared in Topps Zorro series, and later appeared in several solo one-shots and two mini-series. Lady Rawhide was created by Don McGregor and Mike Mayhew.

Anita Santiago was driven to create her own costumed identity to seek revenge against the Commandante of Los Angeles, Captain Enrique Monasterio who inflected terrible injures on her brother, Roman Santiago. Anita’s hatred for Zorro came about when her brother, Roman, was falsely mistaken as being Zorro by the nefarious Captain Enrique Monasterio who shot Roman point black which ended up permanently blinding Roman, and disfiguring left half of his face. Since then, Anita swore that she would make Zorro pay with his life.

What seemed like a simple task for vendetta became more complicated after she met her adversary that she eventually fell in love and came to respect what Zorro stood for. She would eventually adopt his goal to fight injustice and help the helpless against the wicked and corrupt.

Newburn (2021)

In this ongoing series from Chip Zdarsky and Jacob Phillips, Easton Newburn is a private detective without loyalties, investigating conflicts between rival crime factions while collecting enemies along the way.

 

Amazing Spider-Man V3 (2015)

Following the 2015 Secret Wars event, a number of Spider-Man-related titles were either relaunched or created as part of the “All-New, All-Different Marvel” event. Among them, The Amazing Spider-Man was relaunched as well and primarily focuses on Peter Parker continuing to run Parker Industries, and becoming a successful businessman who is operating worldwide. It also tied with Civil War II (involving an Inhuman who can predict possible future named Ulysses Cain), Dead No More (where Ben Reilly [the original Scarlet Spider] revealed to be revived and as one of the antagonists instead), and Secret Empire(during Hydra’s reign led by a Hydra influenced Captain America/Steve Rogers, and the dismissal of Parker Industries by Peter Parker in order to stop Otto Octavius).

Body Bags (1996)

Set in the fictional city of Terminus, Georgia (which is named after the former name for Atlanta), Body Bags follows the contract-killing exploits of a Hispanic father & daughter team of “body baggers” (assassins) Mack Delgado (aka “Clownface”), a knife-wielding veteran of the business, and his overzealous and overly-voluptuous teenage daughter, Panda. Many of their assignments come from the series’ only other recurring character, Sheriff Toni Sinn. Despite the arguing that goes on between teenager Panda and father Mack, Mack is still very protective while Panda constantly fights for her father’s respect and permission to set out on jobs with her father and his longtime body-bagging partner, Pops.

Future State: Dark Detective (2021)

GI Joe: Origins (2009)

G.I. Joe: Origins is a 2009 series published by IDW Publishing. Originally conceived as a five-issue mini-series telling the story of G.I. Joe‘s first mission as a team, it subsequently became an ongoing series with rotating creative teams, featuring a mixture of both standalone character spotlight stories and tie-ins to the main ongoing series.

Many of the book’s standalone stories were originally intended for release as one-shot comics, much like IDW’s The Transformers: Spotlight, before being folded into Origins.

Wytches (2014)

The series follows the Rook family, in particular their daughter Sailor. The family moved to the town of Litchfield, NH following an incident involving Sailor and a particularly vicious school bully named Annie. In this incident, Sailor was attacked and Annie went missing, prompting rumors that Sailor killed her. Eventually the speculation grows to the point where Sailor’s father Charlie and mother Lucy decide that the only thing to do is move the family to a neighboring town in the hopes of starting over again. This proves to be unsuccessful as some of the rumors have followed the family and Sailor still feels ostracized from her new school peers. The family is also largely unaware that the town is home to its own supernatural secrets, in particular a tradition where a person will pledge another to strange beings, wytches, in the nearby forest in order to gain a boon from them.

Witches (2004)

A descendant from a powerful magical family, Andy Kale is tricked into opening a book of magic and thus letting loose a terrible evil. Sensing what happens, Doctor Strange recruits three powerful witches: Andy’s sister Jennifer KaleSatana, and Topaz. He tells them they are to stop the evil monster before it destroys the world’s mystics and then the world itself. Though the girls don’t exactly see eye-to-eye due to their varied personalities, they agree to help.

Nameless (2015)
