Kick-Ass V1 (2008)

Kick-Ass is a creator-owned comic book series written by Mark Millar and illustrated by John Romita Jr. It was initially published by Marvel Comics under the company’s Icon imprint before moving to Image Comics in 2018.

It is the story of Dave Lizewski, a teenager who sets out to become a real life superhero. His actions are publicized on the Internet and inspire other people. He gets caught up with ruthless vigilantes Hit-Girl and Big Daddy who are on a mission to take down the gangster John Genovese.

The comic was adapted into a 2010 film of the same name directed by Matthew Vaughn, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Mark Strong and Nicolas Cage. A sequel, directed by Jeff Wadlow, was released in 2013.

Birds of Prey – New 52 (2011)

DC Comics relaunched Birds of Prey with issue #1 in September 2011 for The New 52 relaunch with the new series having some similar characters which existed in a different universe than the previous DC titles. Novelist Duane Swierczynski replaced Andreyko as the writer, with Jesus Saiz handling the art. Noted Batman villain Poison Ivy was announced as one of the new characters joining the team.

The book’s first storyline begins shortly after Barbara regains the use of her legs due to the events of Flashpoint. Dinah approaches her old friend with an offer to join the new Birds of Prey team she is putting together, but she declines, instead suggesting that Katana take her place. The gun-toting vigilante Starling is also recruited into the team, along with Poison Ivy.

After the departure of Poison Ivy after issue #12, the team roster changed again when Katana spun off into her own solo book along with providing her services to the Justice League of America. With occasional help from Condor and a former Talon, the Birds of Prey move on with writer Christy Marx in issue #18.

 

Captain Marvel (2014)

In July 2012, Carol Danvers, the longtime super-heroine known as Ms. Marvel, assumed the mantle of Captain Marvel in an ongoing series written by Kelly Sue DeConnick with art by Dexter Soy. Danvers dons a jumpsuit and explores her own past. DeConnick said at WonderCon 2012 that her pitch for the series could be described as “Carol Danvers as Chuck Yeager“. She said the series would contemplate what Captain Marvel’s legend means to Danvers, how she will wield it, and how the rest of the Marvel Universe reacts.

Crime and Punishment (1948)

A companion series to Crime Does Not Pay from the same publisher, slightly less violent and with more emphasis on police work. Stories and art by Fred Kida, Dick Rockwell, Carl Wessler, Fred Guardineer, and Charles Biro.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Volume 1 (1993)

The first comic stories (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Volume 1) consisted of a Prestige format, limited series, three-part comic book adaptation of the novelisation of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. This was followed by other three-part adaptations of The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (Restaurant at the End of the Universe Volume 1) in 1994, and Life, the Universe and Everything (Life, The Universe and Everything Volume 1) in 1996.

Deathstroke V4 (2016)

In DC Rebirth, Deathstroke, along with Lady Shiva, is mentioned as one of the enemies that Batman thinks may be attacking him on Two-Face‘s orders. He also stars in an ongoing series where he has a change of conscience and recruits a team of young superheroes to redeem his past misdeeds. In addition, he has come into contact with the African hero Red Lion/President Matthew Bland of Buredunia. Bland offers him a high sum for making sure his competition was not bringing in US forces, in exchange for Slade’s Ikon Suit made of Promethium for his own suit. He attempts to save his son by using Speed Force energy off from Kid Flash, but he was thwarted by both Titans and Teen Titans. He later builds the newest team called Defiance, with both his children, Wintergreen, Adeline Kane and Wallace as his teammates.  It was later disbanded after Power Girl committed suicide, and Slade’s attempts have grown worse to himself. 

Deathstroke was later imprisoned in Arkham Asylum, though he escapes and later defeated by the Titans.  In order for his death-wish to be confirmed, he releases all the inmates that Robin had put to attack the Titans, he came close of Damian to kill him, but instead, he was killed by Red Arrow.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Winter’s Teeth (2020)

When Cecily Bain, an enforcer for the Twin Cities’ vampiric elite, takes a mysterious new vampire under her wing, she’s dragged into an insidious conspiracy. Meanwhile, on the outskirts of the cities, a rebellious found-family of vampire cast-outs investigates a vicious killing. As the unlives of the Kindred twine together and betrayals are unearthed, will Cecily be able to escape and save what’s left of her family, or will she be yet another pawn sacrificed to maintain the age-old secret: that vampires exist among the living?

The Shadow: Blood and Judgement (1986)

In 1986, another DC adaptation of The Shadow was developed by Howard Chaykin. This four issue mini-series, The Shadow: Blood and Judgement, brought The Shadow to modern-day New York. While initially successful, this version proved unpopular with traditional Shadow fans because it depicted The Shadow using Uzi submachine guns and rocket launchers, as well as featuring a strong strain of black comedy and extreme violence throughout.

Batman/Superman – New 52 (2013)

Batman/Superman (Volume 1) is a comic book series chronicling the adventures of Batman and Superman. It, along with Superman Unchained, was launched coinciding with the 75th anniversary of Superman.

Unlike its predecessor series, Superman/Batman, the stories reflect the status quo that is going on in the other Batman and Superman comic books.
