Dr. Fate V2 (1988)

In 1988, DC Comics would release a Doctor Fate ongoing series focusing on 2 characters acting simultaneously as Doctor Fate, the first twenty-four issues written and drawn by J.M. DeMatteis and Shawn McManus. The series focused on magically aged up Eric and Linda acting as Doctor Fate under the guidance of Nabu, whom has inhabited and taken the identity of Kent Nelson. Despite their differences in personality and both Eric’s immaturity and true age, Linda is portrayed as having feelings for Erica which are mutual. The Eric Stauss character was seemingly killed off later in the run, making the Linda Strauss character the sole Doctor Fate for a time.

Justice League of America – V3 (2013)

The cancellation of Justice League International (V2) led into the launch of a new Justice League of America title (V3). The new Justice League of America is entirely separate from the main Justice League as the new team was formed by Amanda Waller and consists of Steve Trevor, Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow, Hawkman, Catwoman, the new Green Lantern Simon Baz, Stargirl, Katana, and Vibe. The new Atom, Rhonda Pineda, is also a member of the Justice League of America. She works as a spy to gain intel on the Justice League, reporting to Amanda Waller and Steve Trevor. It is later revealed that, unknown to the members of either team, she is actually a member of Earth-3’s Crime Syndicate, and is betraying both teams. Each member of the Justice League of America is intended to be a counterpart to the members of the Justice League, in case the Justice League would ever go rogue. Catwoman and Green Arrow both serve as counterparts for Batman.

Justice League of America V5 – Rebirth (2017)

Starting in February 2017 as part of DC Rebirth’s second wave, a new Justice League of America series was released. The team consists of the Atom, Vixen, the Ray, and Killer Frost. The month prior to this, each of these members received a one-shot issue. On October 28, it was revealed that Batman, Black Canary, and Lobo would be joining the team as well. Batman will have a dual membership in both Justice League teams. This series ended in April 2018 with the release of issue #29.

Batman: Last Knight on Earth (2019)

Bruce Wayne wakes up in Arkham Asylum. Young. Sane. And…he was never Batman. So begins this sprawling tale of the Dark Knight as he embarks on a quest through a devastated DC landscape featuring a massive cast of familiar faces from the DC Universe. As he tries to piece together the mystery of his past, he must unravel the cause of this terrible future and track down the unspeakable force that destroyed the world as he knew it.

 

Hawkman V5 (2018)

A new Hawkman series was announced in March 2018 with writing by Robert Venditti and art by Bryan Hitch, the book will explore Carter Hall’s experiences after the events that happened during Dark Nights: Metal, alongside his relationship to Hawkgirl.

The first arc of the comic deals with Hall, believing there are gaps in the memories of his past lives, recovering a mystical artefact that allows him to unlock all his memories. He becomes aware of multiple previous incarnations of himself, which include Katar Hol, and also has a vision of Earth in the future, destroyed by gigantic winged creatures (later revealed to be spaceships) known as the Deathbringers. Hall deduces that his first human incarnation, Prince Khufu, had the same vision, resulting in a winged figure becoming an important symbol throughout all his lives.

Carter Hall also discovers that, as well as reincarnating over time on Earth, he has also lived multiple lives on alien worlds, and at least once two or more of his reincarnations have existed simultaneously.

DC Universe: Rebirth (2016)

Geoff Johns described the 80-page one-shot as “re-laying the groundwork for DC’s future while celebrating the past and present. It’s not about throwing anything away. It’s quite the opposite.” On the initiative, which was described as a rebirth of the DC Universe, Johns call Rebirth more “in the same vein as Green Lantern: Rebirth and The Flash: Rebirth. Some things alter and change, but it’s more character-driven, and it’s also more about revealing secrets and mysteries within the DC Universe about “Flashpoint” and The New 52 that are part of a bigger tapestry.” The Rebirth initiative will reintroduce concepts from pre-Flashpoint continuity, such as legacy, that were lost with The New 52 and build “on everything that’s been published since Action Comics #1 up thru The New 52.”. Lee said that Johns “came up with this brilliant story [for the DC Universe: Rebirth Special] that basically allows us to seat the New 52 within the continuity that preceded it. So it really synchronizes and harmonizes pre-52 with New 52 continuity”.

Underworld Unleashed: Abyss – Hell’s Sentinel (1995)

Molly Mayne is the wife of Alan Scott. Alan has miraculously regained his youth, and Molly cannot deal with the fact that she is still a sixty-odd year old woman married to a man in a twenty-year-old body. She takes a mystic candle (supplied to her by agents of Neron) and lights it. She sells her soul to be young again and is driven mad in the process. Molly goes to Hell.

When Sentinel finds out, he is determined to do all that he can to free her soul. He enlists the aid of the world’s most powerful occult mystics, including Zatanna, the Phantom Stranger, Fate and Jim Corrigan. After making a pit-stop at Tannarak’s bar, they travel to Hell where they confront a host of villains including Neron, Blackbriar Thorn, Blaze, Satanus, the Spectre and the Demon.

Deathlok – Limited Series (1990)

A new Deathlok, Michael Collins, debuted in the miniseries Deathlok #1-4 (July-Oct. 1990, reprinted as Deathlok Special #1-4 the following year). He was the second Deathlok to be created in the modern era and also the second to be created for the traditional Marvel Universe. This second Deathlok went on to a 34-issue series cover-dated July 1991 to April 1994, plus two summer annuals in 1992 and 1993.

Wacky Raceland (2016)

The world has ended, but the race has just begun! Penelope Pitstop, Peter Perfect and the rest of the Wacky Racers vie for the finish line in a contest where the winner takes all and second place is death. Today’s trial: the shattered maze of freeways known as the Überpass, where they’re beset by giant sand beasts, mutated insects, and worst of all, Dick Dastardly’s murderously poor sportsmanship. The last thing they need after surviving the race is a brutal bar fight in a local dive, but that’s just what they get!

Superman/Wonder Woman (2013)

In July 2013, DC Comics announced the launch of Superman/Wonder Woman in October 2013. The series written by Charles Soule, best known for his work on Swamp Thing, and drawn by Tony Daniel (Action Comics, Detective Comics). It was to explore the budding relationship between Superman and Wonder Woman, the DC Universe‘s most powerful heroes. About the series Soule said, “Obviously, the idea of Superman and Wonder Woman being romantic with each other is not brand new. That concept has been around for a long time. It was addressed in Kingdom Come, the great Mark Waid book. Most recently, in Justice League #12 (October 2012), they had the kiss heard ’round the world… They’re arguably two of the most powerful beings in the whole DC Universe and they’re romantic together so just imagine the adventures and excitement that can come from that.”
