Farmhand (2018)

a Louisiana farmer named Jedidiah receives a vision and creates a plant which can grow replacement limbs and organs for human beings. The plot begins several years later when his estranged adult son, Ezekiel, returns home to join the family business. Many outside agents, including foreign and domestic government operatives, are after the secret of Jedidiah’s seed. Meanwhile, Jedidiah’s former partner, Thorne, has been covertly introducing the seed into the wild and is elected mayor.

Farmhand debuted to mostly positive reviews. Critics were divided on the effectiveness of the story’s pacing but praised the combination of humor and horror elements. The story is told with a cartoon-like art style and often features visual gags.

Spawn (2010’s)

By issue #191 in May 2009, with estimated sales of 19,803 copies, Spawn had dropped below Top 100 titles sold monthly to comic shops as reported by Diamond Comic Distributors. As of August 2010 Spawn no longer was ranked in the top 300 sales figures chart reported by Diamond Comic Distributors. On the day of its release in 2011, issue #200 sold out. This issue featured work by Greg Capullo, David Finch, Michael Golden, Jim Lee, Rob Liefeld, Marc Silvestri, Danny Miki, and Ashley Wood. A second printing was released the next month. Despite its remarkable sales, it received a negative review from IGN.

Moonshine (2016)

Oblivion Song (2018)

Oblivion Song is an ongoing American comic book series created by writer Robert Kirkman and artist Lorenzo de Felici.

It is a supernatural science fiction story that chronicles Nathan Cole, a man who makes daily trips to try and rescue those still living in the apocalyptic hellscape of Oblivion, a part of Philadelphia lost a decade ago along with 300,000 of its citizens.

In June 2019, it was revealed that Universal Pictures and Skybound Entertainment will produce an Oblivion Song movie with Sean O’Keefe writing the script.

Prophet V1 (1993)

Rob Liefeld told Wizard magazine in 1994 that he was inspired by Gene Roddenberry and Steven Spielberg to create Prophet. The character first appeared in Youngblood #2, released by Image Comics in July 1992. Prophet was originally intended to appear in the pages of Marvel Comics‘ X-Force. Liefeld explained to Wizard: “He was going to show up around #6 or #7 in my original plans, and the cover to Youngblood #2 originally had X-Force members looking on instead of Youngblood members. I soon decided that I was going to work on stuff that was creator-owned, so I pulled the character of Prophet and saved him for later.”

The storyline in Youngblood led directly into Prophet’s own title, which lasted eleven issues (including a zero issue). A second series, written by Chuck Dixon, premiered in 1995 and lasted eight issues. A one-shot was released in 2000 by Awesome Comics.

Wanted (2003)

As with Superman: Red Son, Millar claims that the concept for the series occurred to him when he was a child. In this case, it came to him after his brother told him that there were no superheroes any more because they had all disappeared after a great war with their respective supervillains. It was modified from a pitch by Millar for a Secret Society of Super-Villains series.

1986, the year of the aforementioned war in which the supervillains took over and made their world “darker and grittier”, has real world significance to the world of comic books. It marks the publication of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, and the completion of the 1985-86 Crisis on Infinite Earths series.
