Published by Dark Horse Comics, the first issue was released in September 2002. It ran for 40 issues, and was continued in the Star Wars: Rebellion series.
In the weeks before the events in Star Wars: A New Hope, as the Death Star is readied for its fateful first mission, a power-hungry cabal of Grand Mofs and Imperial Officers embark on a dangerous plan to kill Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader and seize control of the Empire!
Star Wars: Legacy is set over 126 years after the film Return of the Jedi. The comics feature Cade Skywalker, a descendant of Luke Skywalker, who was trained as a Jedi, but abandoned the order. He apprenticed himself to the pirate Rav and lives among bounty hunters, smugglers and pirates. Cade also dropped his last name. The series begins with an attack on the Jedi Temple and the overthrow of the Galactic Alliance by the One Sith order.
After a great and furious struggle, Cade and his friends manage to kill the evil Sith emperor, Darth Krayt. However, even without their leader, the Sith remain a powerful danger.
Published by Dark Horse Comics from 1998 to February 2006, the series was originally titled simply Star Wars, but acquired its Republic title at issue 46. The entire series comprises 83 issues. After issue 83, the series was replaced by Star Wars: Dark Times, which continued the Republic numbering on its inside covers. The Republic series is one of a number of comic book series set in the Star Wars Expanded Universe.
The events in Star Wars: Republic are set in roughly the same fictional timeframe as the Star Wars film prequel trilogy. Character development builds on the films, including appearances by more prominent characters such as Mace Windu and Yoda, as well as peripheral characters such as Ki-Adi-Mundi and Quinlan Vos.
